Simple Sausage and Tomato Pizza Sauce

I really like Easy when it is this hot and I am busy! This recipe certainly meets the criteria of being easy and fast! You need to try it with the pizza dough recipe on my blog. That dough recipe makes the best crust for a homemade pizza. If you don’t have the time for that, you can pick up a Boboli bread and load it up with this sauce and other goodies!

You can make ahead and have it ready for when you need it. It will last about 3 to 4 days in the fridge!

Ingredients:

1/2 lb of pork sausage

1 1/2 tablespoons fennel seed

1/4 cup chopped red onion

5 cloves chopped garlic

1 1/4 tablespoons freshly chopped oregano

1 can Contadina diced tomatoes 14.5 oz

3/4 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

1 teaspoon sea salt

In a large skillet, start to brown the sausage over medium heat. Chop the meat up as it cooks. After 1 minute, add the fennel seed and onion. Continue to stir and soften the onion as the meat cooks. When the onions begin to become translucent, add the garlic, chopped fresh oregano, the canned tomatoes, and the salt and pepper. Allow this to cook over medium heat until most of the liquid has cooked off (about 4 minutes). Stir in the basil. The sauce is now ready to use or refrigerate until later. Allow the sauce to cool off before placing on uncooked dough.

The pizza sauce on prepared dough. All ready for roasted red peppers, pepperoni, olives, and cheeses. Bake your completed pizza for 25-27 minutes at 400 degrees.
